DJ Mag Top 100 DJs 2016

It’s that time of the year again. July is here and so will the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs 2016 poll be. Officially, the poll is set to launch on July 6, 2016. As you already know, DJ Mag Top 100 DJs is the world’s biggest music poll which attracts at least one million voters every year. In addition, it is the most reliable guide of the trending DJs. Also, it inspires many debates in the electro music scene.

DJ Mag Top 100 DJs 2016 is the twelfth poll from DJ Mag. That means that these polls have been around from 2004. The first time it launched, many of the popular DJs of today have not even entered the contest. In 2004, Tiësto won the first place. The second place went to Paul van Dyk. Armin Van Buuren got the third place, Sasha ended up in number four, and the last one who was in the top five was Ferry Corsten.

But, 2004 was more than a decade ago and the scene has changed dramatically. But, some DJs remained on the list. For example, Armin Van Buuren was voted as the best DJ of 2013. The next few years he couldn’t keep the number one position, but he still remained in the top five. In 2014, he was voted as the third best DJ in the world, and in 2015 he was number four.

In 2013, our beloved Martin Garrix was only 17 and he managed to be among the first 40 DJs on the list. However, only a year later, Garrix climbed the ladder for 36 places. Yes, you’ve read it right. In 2014, Martin Garrix was number four. Last year, he climbed the ladder up for one more spot and ended up as the third best DJ in the world, pushing Armin Van Buuren down for one spot.

In 2013, Hardwell was voted as the DJ of the year and he managed to keep his position for two years. In 2014, Hardwell was DJ of the year once again. However, he must have felt slightly threatened when he saw that Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike climbed 32 places in 2013, and in 2014 they ended up as number two. Unfortunately for Hardwell, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike dethroned him in 2015, putting him in the well-respected second position.

And now, in 2016, it is all up to fans. One of the biggest questions is can Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike win again? They definitely shocked the world when they were voted as the best DJs of 2015. But, nevertheless, they earned their spot. Their fans are definitely their biggest support, and the Tomorrowland residents even mobilized support in their home country and at shows all over the world to take the crown. However, Hardwell’s fans are hoping that their two-time DJ champion will once again become the best DJ in DJ Mag Top 100 DJs 2016. If he does he will become a part of a small and elite group of DJs who have topped the list on three separate occasions (and one of them is Tiësto and his well-known fellow DJ Armin Van Buuren).

We definitely shouldn’t focus only on these amazing DJs, because there are others who have so much to offer. And, we shouldn’t be surprised by those who have climbed the list so suddenly. The times are changing, and so is the EDM scene, as well as the top DJs. Over the last twelve months, we have seen a shift away from big room EDM, in favor of the slower, groovier sound commonly referred to as future house. But, are the future house artists the future of Top 100 DJs poll? Oliver Heldens, Disclosure, and Kygo made huge advances in 2015. Will the trend continue in 2016? Will one of them be this year’s winner, or will the future house be left aside?

According to the previous results of DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll, if the best artist of one year was dethroned the following year, it would usually be by the artist who was the second. However, maybe this year a change will happen and the artist who was rated as the third best DJ in the world last year beats both Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Hardwell. We are talking about Martin Garrix. Young Garrix has been nothing but a sensation in the past three years. As already mentioned, in 2013 he was number 40. And, in just two years he climbed up for 37 spots. Amazing, isn’t it? If this 21-year-old Dutchman makes it to the top this year, he will be the youngest ever Top 100 DJs champion.
